The simulation suite at Southampton General Hospital was upgraded and opened in January 2020, and is situated in A level, South Academic Block. Within the suite, there are two separate simulation rooms with cameras, together with a larger classroom and control room. In conjunction with our selection of manikins, and other equipment, these rooms can be adapted to simulate a variety of healthcare environments.
Additionally, other UHS sites (e.g. Princess Anne Hospital), have simulation facilities and resources that are available for staff training and development.Historically (and perhaps practically), simulation-based training at Southampton General Hospital has tended towards a decentralised structure, with a diverse selection of specialist faculty taking individual responsibility for the available range of simulation courses and study days.
In more recent years, the dedicated UHS simulation team have been engaged in augmenting this established culture by developing new simulation-based training, working collaboratively with various specialists from across the breadth of the multidisciplinary team, and providing faculty development training for those looking to start afresh with a new educational approach.
